Herand & Hardanger
If you want to venture beyond the guesthouse walls, Herand is perhaps one of the most beautiful starting points for hikes and adventures in all of Hardanger. We certainly think so! There’s plenty to do locally, and even more if you explore beyond the village!
Samlen
The Samlen hike in Herand offers one of the most stunning views in Hardanger. From the summit at 686 meters above sea level, you have a panoramic view both inwards and outwards over the Hardangerfjord, including Granvinfjord, Norheimsund, Øystese, and Samladalen
Cultural walk
A easy-going loop trail of 3 km that takes you through a beautiful cultural landscape rich in history, geology, and flora. You will pass archaeological finds, fascinating rock formations, and information boards that tell the story of the area's cultural heritage.
Culture gallery
A modern gallery and workshop in traditional architectural style, located on the Mælen farm in Herand. The gallery offers visitors a unique experience where modern design meets ancient tradition, all with a special view of the Hardangerfjord.

Petroglyphs
The rock carvings in Herand are a unique cultural heritage site, with around 150 figures from the Bronze Age. The carvings depict boats, people, footprints, and other rare motifs. Originally discovered in 1903, the petroglyphs have been studied and conserved to preserve them.
Glacier hiking on Folgefonna
Folgefonni Breførarlag offers guided glacier hiking tours on Folgefonna, Norway's third largest glacier. The popular "Blue Ice Hike" on Juklavassbreen lasts 5–6 hours and combines flat ice areas with exciting crevasses.
Cider tasting
Hardanger is the Cider capital and there are many wonderful Ciders to taste. Some of our favorites are Kvestad Gård or Åkre Gård
